Conservation and Yoga: How Your Retreat Gives Back

May 11, 2026

We work exclusively with ethical, conservation-focused lodges, guides and sanctuaries, and a share of every retreat supports local wildlife and community initiatives in the areas we operate.

That isn’t incidental to the experience — a guide who genuinely cares about the animal in front of you, at a camp that reinvests in the land it sits on, changes the quality of an encounter in ways guests notice even without being told.

It’s part of a broader belief we hold: that the emotional power of Africa’s wilderness works best when it’s protected, not extracted from — and that a retreat built on that principle tends to leave guests wanting to protect it too.

What “Conservation-Minded” Means in Practice

It shows up in small operational choices as much as big ones: camps that run on solar power, lodges that employ from the surrounding community, sanctuaries that never breed or trade the animals in their care. We vet partners on these criteria before adding them to any itinerary.

For a group leader, this is also a story worth telling your travelers before they book — many guests choose a retreat partly on the strength of knowing their trip supports the land and community it visits, not just the yoga and the wildlife.

How This Gets Communicated to Guests

We provide teachers with a short, factual summary of each retreat’s conservation partners and contributions, written so it can be shared with a group before departure without overstating what a single retreat trip can realistically achieve.

We’d rather understate this than oversell it — a retreat is not a conservation programme, but choosing partners who reinvest in the land and community they operate in is a meaningful, honest difference worth explaining.

Several teachers have used this material as part of their own pre-retreat communications, framing the trip’s conservation dimension as one part of the story rather than the headline.
