How to Bring Your Yoga Group to Africa: A Guide for Retreat Leaders

February 16, 2026

The short answer is: less than most teachers expect. Africa Yoga Safaris is a retreat travel curation company, not an activity provider — we handle accommodation, transfers, permits and safari or river experiences, working in association with local partners like Victoria Falls Yoga, so you can focus entirely on teaching.

The process starts with a simple enquiry about your group size, dates and destination. We come back with a full itinerary and per-person pricing, and once you’re happy, we lock in every booking and contract directly with our partners.

From there, your job is the same as running a retreat anywhere else — build your group, plan your sessions — while ours is everything logistical underneath it. Our full breakdown of the process lives on our Retreat With Us page.

What You’re Actually Responsible For

In practice, a teacher’s job on one of our retreats looks like: filling your group, communicating the itinerary we build for you, and showing up to teach. We handle vendor contracts, deposits, transfers between destinations, and the on-the-ground problem-solving that inevitably comes up on any trip.

That division matters most when something changes last-minute — a flight delay, a weather shift affecting an activity. Because we own every booking directly with our partners, we can adjust the plan in real time without routing the fix through you or your group.

What Teachers Tell Us Afterward

The most common feedback we get once a retreat wraps is surprise at how little actually went wrong — not because nothing ever does, but because problems get solved before a teacher even hears about them.

Several teachers have told us the hardest part of the whole process was simply deciding to enquire in the first place — the planning itself, once underway, moved faster and with less friction than a domestic retreat they’d run before.

A number of our teacher partners now run a Southern Africa retreat annually, which is the outcome we design for: a first trip smooth enough that doing it again isn’t a question.
